The day after the big day, and I am up at my usual time...5:30 AM. I am having no ill effects from surgery, and truth be told, before I took a pain med. , I was only at an uncomfortable 3 on the scale. To be on the safe side I have taken one, just so the soreness does not build.
Now, on the day of, I get to the SurgiCenter, well before time(cause if I ain't early, I am late) Talk to the admitting nurse, and then get routed to the waiting room. This is at approx. 11:15 AM, and I thinking that I should be going in soon, since I know I have to be prepped, and that is a process in its own right, WRONG......I sit and wait, and wait, and wait. Noon comes and goes, 12:15.... I really hate waiting. The up side is that I a short conversation with some people waiting for a loved one to come out of surgery. What caught my ear is that the husband of the patient mentioned Cheerleaders, and that they have a good breakfast, and his SIL thought that is was nudie bar! I politely turned to her, and said...." No, it really isn't a girly bar, and the food is great." Yes, my two cents, but she got to laughing, because every female they know, thinks that is what Cheerleaders is. I got to give her the history of the name, and she took the stress of my impending surgery away for just a few moments. So you know where they were from.... do ya wanna know? Burns... I wonder if she says....N.A.P.A too...lol
Anyway, I finally get to prep... at 12:40. The nurse was great, making quips about the pregnancy waver.... kinda hard to get preggers when you don't have sex for over 2 years!!!! We laughed, then I hiccup.... where we both go and imitate a drunk. She asks if I would like another cocktail, and I said, yes, just leave off the tail. (oops, my bad...bad bad bad, Jen). To say this nurse knew her stuff is an understatement. My biggest dread is the placement of the IV line, and she did a wonderful, and painless job of it. Yes, I have a bruise, but the placement was in the crook of my arm, so I expected that.
Now, after waiting for what seemed forever, I finally see Dr. Quinn, who gets right to the job of marking me up...that is if the chair would behave, we thought all he could do was pivot, since one leg felt nailed to the floor. Between the chair, and one uncooperative breast(it just would not stay in his hand, it was like jello or something.Push it up, watch it slip away, push, slip, push, slip.) Finally done with the marking and in come the anesthesiologist, who asked the right questions, whom I let know my experience coming out, sorry, vertical hold is not a fun room spin(kinda like doing somersaults... but you aren't moving). Just wish he had more of a personality, and kept his personal calls out of my interview. Eh, it can't all be perfect. It is now...... after 2 PM.... and I am just heading in to surgery. Hi, put on this mask, it is just oxygen, then the metallic taste at the back of my throat..........
Opening my eyes to a smiling face. "Your daughter and friends are here, and Doug is on his way. How are you feeling?" ... take a deep breath.....and ask for ice chips, my throat is dry. Pain scale at a 5, "cough, cough" that doesn't hurt, cough some more, getting the crap out of my lungs, amazed that the room isn't spinning, and I really do feel great. A bit loopy, but great. This is the least amount of pain I have been in after any surgery.
I want to take a moment and thank all of you who held me in your prayers, to my best friend and hubby that were there for me at the last moment, when my previous plans fell through, and for your kind offers of further assistance, if needed. I love you, all of you. God's blessing to you.
And so here I sit, blogging, (and prolly boring) in the morning, drinking my coffee, and already feeling restless. I want to see my new boobies, but can't till tonight, Bummer....... and no, no pictures.... yet!...lol
