A La Pine man who allegedly pointed a gun at four girls near Bend High School Tuesday afternoon was arrested later at Mountain View High, which went under lockdown on a report he was heading that way, police said. A loaded handgun was found in his car, they added.

Officers were called to the area of Bend High shortly before 2 p.m. on a report the driver of a gray car had pointed a gun at the girls, said police Sgt. Todd Fletcher. A younger female passenger reportedly was in the car, he added.

Arriving officers searched for the car but was unable to find it, Fletcher said. A female caller soon reported seeing the car near a 7-Eleven convenience store at NE Greenwood Avenue and Eighth Street.

Police soon determined the car was en route to Mountain View High, on 27th Street, Fletcher said. Officers went there and told school officials and the school resource officer. That led to a lockdown of the school.

Officers found the suspect's car in a parking lot east of Mountain View's football field, Fletcher said.

The driver, identified as Robert Arthur Edmondson III, 22, of La Pine, was found inside the car and taken into custody without incident, Fletcher said. The juvenile female passenger also was detained without incident.

During a search, a loaded handgun was found in the car. However, Fletcher said there was no indication Edmondson intended to enter the school with the gun.

"It appears Edmondson's actions were directed solely at the initial four juvenile female victims," Fletcher said in a news release.

Fletcher said the case remained under investigation and more details would follow, including the criminal charges against Edmondson.
